Step 10 Worn Out Product

The Final Step Worn Out Make up

Worn out make up may be make up that is out of style (blue mascara for example).  Or it may be past its prime!

To avoid this:

  • Stay current with new make up trends visit www.marykay.ca/lkelland-may for new trends and current colors.
  • Throw out old make up.  This means mascara that is old and flakey.  Old mascara is the biggest offender.  Bacteria can get into your cosmetics and cause inflammation to your skin.
  • Check the ‘best before date on your product.  Sometimes sale products are on special because they are near their due date.

Step 9 Lip Stick

Step 9 Lip Stick

When applying lip stick make sure that you do not make the following mistakes:

  • Have too bright a color.   Remember your lip color competes with your eyes.
  • Lip color doesn’t match your skin tone.  Choose a color based on your skin tone.
  • Lips competes with your eyes.  Use light shades for lighter skin tone and then your focus goes to your eyes.
  • Lip stick is too dark.  Darker skin tones are best suited with richer darker lipstick colors.
  • Lip stick that that makes you too old.  Warmer colors make you look younger.

Step 8 Lip Liner

Mary Kay Lip Liner

Mary Kay Lip Liner

Gone are the days of the noticeable line around your mouth.  Avoid this faux pas by selecting the proper color lip liner.  The purpose of the liner is to help define your liips and to prevent any ‘bleeding’ of your lipstick/gloss.

To help enhance the look of your lips:

  • Select the color that matches your lip color
  • You can go one shade slightly darker, but not more than one shade darker.
  • Blend harsh lines with a lip brush.
  • leave the fullest part of your lip lighter to give it a ‘kissable’ look!

Step 6 Concealer!

concealerFor more beauty tips go to www.marykay.ca/lkelland-may or visit the Beauty Secrets page

One of the most common problems is the concealer is too light or too much!

  • Apply after foundation then touch up!
  • Do not smear or rub in concealer.  Gently dab it with your fingertips and smooth it into your natural skin tone.
  • Choose a color that is appropriate for your skin tone.
  • Always finish with powder!

  • Choose your Powder

10 Common Make Up Mistakes and How to Fix Them!

  1. Foundation – The most common error is that you look like you are wearing a mask OR you wear no foundation at all!
  • One reason you should wear foundation is to protect your skin. Its purpose is to look like skin and even your skin tone.
  • Prevent the mask look or ‘the line’ by choosing the correct shade. Apply a small dab on your jawline. Gently rub it in and let it dry. You should not be able to see it. If it is visible, it is the wrong shade. Match your ivory, beige and bronze skin tones with undertones of yellow, pink and bronze.
  • The right foundation weight such as full coverage or light coverage depends on your type (oily, dry, or combination).
  • Trying it on the back of your hand doesn’t work. Your hand color and tone is quite different than you face color!
  • Gently dab your foundation on. Then smooth it over your forehead, cheeks and throat. Rubbing it smears and pulls at your skin.

Bridal Makeup & Makeovers…. don’t make these mistakes!

I had a booth at the local Bridal Fair recently and alot of the brides were quite dumbfounded as to how to put their wedding makeup on. It shouldn’t be that difficult should it?

  1. Your make up shouldn’t over shadow your dress or the day. Keep it simple and of course depending on your style match your personality.
  2. It doesn’t matter how great your makeup is if your skin is in rough shape.  Think of your skin first and allow some time to get your skin in shape by taking care of it.  Drink plenty of water, and find a skin care regime suitable for your skin type.  Everyone likes beautiful skin, Right?  So enhance your beautiful skin with some makeup.
  3. Try it out before the big day!  On the day of your wedding please don’t go out to Walmart or your local drug store to purchase new makeup.  Try it several days before hand just in case you don’t like the colour or you have a reaction to it.
  4. Use waterproof mascara, and non-metallic powders.  If you tend to cry… then use a good waterproof mascara. Don’t use the dollar store variety.  It may not pull through for you.  Metallic eye shadow and powders should be avoided as it will cause shining on the photographs.

Step 5 Cheeks!

Now for step 5 Cheeks

The colour of your blush should be complimentary to your skin tone and your clothing. One of the most common errors is that the blush is not blended well. Avoid the stripe look!

  • Angle the brush when you apply the blush so that the colour blends in with your skin.
  • Apply blush on your cheeks along your cheek bone line no higher then your eye to no lower to your nose!
  • Warm colours have the effect of making you look younger and glowing!
  • Blend the colour to avoid stripesStay tuned for step 6 ConcealerVisit my website www.marykay.ca/lkelland-may for more tips and tricks!
